The pond that we created last summer has been a wonderful source for capturing the magical moments of the visiting wildlife that now call it home.
This beautiful frog is one of two frogs that have moved into our backyard pond.
Throughout the day she moves about the pond looking for a good meal, sunning herself, swimming and finding a shady spot from the afternoon sun.
Today, as I went to clean the pond filter at the edge of the pond I found 'Froggy' (my creative name for her!!) perched on the edge. Many times I find them in the basket to the filter searching for the uneaten fish food that eventually end up there. They usually jump out when I arrive, but today she seemed quite content to sit on the edge and pose for pictures!
Froggy loves sitting on the perimeter rocks of the pond sunning herself and waiting for some unsuspecting insect to come along for a snack. I just love her white tummy with black spots!
Froggy is quite a lovely looking Green Frog (Rana clamitans). It's amazing how beautifully patterned she is! Male green frogs have yellow throats and swollen thumbs. Froggy blends into the surrounding rocks and plants so well, that I have to be careful not to step on her or her buddy while weeding or working around the pond!
Here Froggy is finding shade from the hot afternoon sun. She is snuggled in between the rocks that are part of the waterfall, catching a little water spray once in awhile, and has a great view overlooking the pond!
It's hard to find Froggy in this picture but she likes to hang out in the shallow pools of the waterfall. Here, you can see her little green and brown head poking up from the water!
This is our backyard pond where 'Froggy' and 'Splash' hang out!
They happily share it with our five goldfish!
